Call me skeptical, but don't you think that since it IS the VH1 board (not a board run on some free service, but an actual reputable board dedicated to music) that he would have had no problems posting under his real name, and having some sort of VH1 endorsement (like on the Wind-Up boards, when a band member posts, they have the Title of "Band Member") verifying that he really was who he claimed?
Plus, why would he post under a false identity when apologizing for his actions at the concert?  Wouldn't it have actually meant something to the fans to see it come from Scott Stapp instead?
Sounding to me like someone else trying to make up an excuse for the band, since the band has yet failed to release a statement of their own.  Much like people on the old CQ Board posting pretending to be various band members, Wind-Up Staff, and The elusive "Seeker".  At least then, some of us had access to their IPs and knew who was really who they claimed to be.
And if it really was Scotty, well... I think this would go to prove that the guy is a real cheap drunk, and can't handle his drinks very well... perhaps it's time he looked into a new hobby, like bungee jumping or skydiving...
Just my 2% of a dollar.
